Some fifty Unil archaeology students have been working on the ancient Roman site of Lousonna which is located under the former Boulodrome de Vidy in Lausanne, Switzerland.

During the last five campaigns, the foundations of three buildings have been excavated. Beneath them: seven successive habitation layers, dating back to the 1st century BC.
The residential district in question was located at the extreme west of the Roman town of Lousonna, where a few thousand inhabitants lived.
The city of Lake Lemannus Vicus had "a port, an imposing basilica and a forum," says Fanny Lanthemann, responsible for the excavations.
"Next year, we will be able to extend the work", says the archaeologist, eager to discover the back walls of the houses buried under the car park of the Boulodrome.
The project will continue until 2021 and will then give way to an eco-neighbourhood in 2022 as part of the City of Lausanne's Metamorphosis project.
